| Advanced Hydration and Comfort Features The skin on your face is a sensitive surface that can easily dry out or become irritated by harsh shaving or an inadequate razor. With its Ultra Glide blades with Skin Guards and water-activated skin conditioners, the Schick Hydro 5 keeps your skin hydrated and smooth with each shave. The razor's Ultra Glide blades with Skin Guards provide more points of contact on the skin, creating a flatter, smoother surface to shave, resulting in a comfortable shave with less irritation.
While most razors have conditioning strips made from a combination of conditioners and plastic, the Hydro 5 features a deep reservoir full of 100% pure conditioner that lasts up to two times longer. The Hydrating Gel Reservoir releases water-activated Aloe- and Vitamin E-enriched lubrication that forms into a gel as you shave for effortless glide and hydration.
Flip Trimmer and Ergonomic Handle Activate the Hydro 5's Flip Trimmer feature for more precise trimming of hard-to-reach places. With a simple flick of your thumb, you can flip back the Hydrating Gel Reservoir so that all five blades touch the skin, as opposed to the single edging blade on most razors. In addition, the Hydro 5's premium, high-gloss ergonomic handle rests naturally in your hand for a comfortable shaving experience.
The Schick Hydro 5 Blade Razor is designed to work with Schick Hydro Sensitive Shave Gel and Schick Hydro Moisturizing Shave Gel. And Schick Hydro 5 Blade Refill are also available.

My husband is a bit of a razor snob. He uses the disposable razor with a battery and then his electric razor to clean up what the disposable misses. When I asked him to try this razor, he initially refused ("I won't like it. I like MY razor"). After much prodding he tried it. He came out of the shower and said that he hated it. He said that it felt like it didn't shave anything at all. Then he picked up his electric to do clean up and was surprised to find that there wasn't anything left to do. It shaved his face completely and effortlessly. The next day I found his old favorite in the garbage.
Now, if I could only convince him on the benefits of vacuuming...

This razor is easy to grip and comfortable to use. It glides easily without worrying about nicks and cuts. The blades last a good week or so which is comparable to other 5 blade cartriges. It cleans quickly and has a good feel in your hand. What more could a person ask for?

I wasn't impressed with this razor. For me it feels a little too smooth, you have to have to go over the same area a couple of times to get the smooth shave. It feels like you're just gliding over the surface. For some this might be a great thing, me not so much. Sometimes a little friction is a good thing.

I'm not sure the 5 blade Schick Hydro shaves any better than my Schick Quattro (4 blade). I'm not sure the Quattro shaved better than a triple blade razor. The only real advances were from single to double and double to triple. I suspect everything after that is just hype.
The razor shaves very well. It glides smoothly without irritation or nicks. The shave head is big, so big that the flip down trimmer is necessary to shave under your nose. You have to put your fingers near the blades to convert the razor to "trimmer." The hydrating gel seems to make no difference (you get rid of it when you convert the razor to "trimmer") and it leaves a slippery, slimy film behind (which obviously is the purpose). The razor cleans easily.
In summary, this is a very good razor, but it does not seem to shave better than less well endowed ones.

I have been using an electric shaver for some time, but on a whim decided to try this product. I was never happy with blade shaving because of little nicks and cuts incurred during the shaving process. These nicks necessitated application of a stiptic pencil to stop the trickles of blood and extended the shave time. So I assumed that this was the downside of blade shaving. That's why I turned to an electric shaver.
I liked the feel of the Schick Hydro 5 Blade Razor. It was sturdy, didn't feel like so many flimsy disposable razors, and had an attractive design. But is was all about the shave, as far as I was concerned.
The first time I used the razor, I thought there might be a cover on the blade section. That's how smooth the shave was. The blade was extremely gentle on my face, especially under the chin and neck area. After only a couple of passes on each section of my face, the skin was smooth and stubble free. I've used the razor two more times since that first experience and the shaves continued to be quick and close. And no blood! I would say that shaving time has been cut down by about a third, and having that extra time in the morning is always helpful.
I still have the electric shaver and I'm not comfortable with giving it up entirely, but I will use the Schick Hydro 5 for now, since the shaves are closer than with the electric shaver.
